Ozone (O3) is an energized form of oxygen. It plays an important role in preserving the atmospheric balance in nature. Ozone production in the upper atmosphere in nature is dependent on the amount of energy coming from the sun. It has been a concern for environmentalists regarding ozone hole and its effect on earth and living beings. Ozone has been used extensively in medical profession and now is gaining a strong foothold in dental profession and is regarded as miraculous cure for the pandemic disease - dental caries. Polymerization shrinkage is one of the most critical properties of resin based esthetic restorative materials. Post operative pain, fracture of the tooth, opening of the margins of restorations which may result in microleakage of fluids, staining of marginal gaps and recurrent caries, are the clinical problems caused by polymerization shrinkage. This study investigated the polymerization shrinkage of two packable resin composites Surefil and Solitaire in air using a strain gauge. The composite specimens were light polymerized with visible light curing system and the dimensional change during different time intervals of 20 sec., 40 sec., 60 sec., 2 mins., 10 mins., 30 mins., 1 hrs., 2 hrs., 3 hrs., 1 day, 3 days, 5 days and 7 days was monitored. The results showed that Surefil exhibited significantly lower polymerization shrinkage than Solitaire, however, the initial shrinkage of Solitaire upto 40 sec. was less compared to Surefil.

This present study was conducted to investigate the effect of flowable composite resin (Tetric flow) versus an injectable glass ionomer cement (Fuji II LC) on microleakage at the cavosurface margin of the proximal box of class II restorations in premolars in vitro. Thirty caries and restoration free maxillary premolars were prepared with a slot on one preoximal surface and were filled either with a bonding agent (Scotchbond Multipurpose) + Flowable composite (tetric flow), group I (15 teeth) or injectable glass ionomer cement group II (15 teeth), all teeth were then immersed in a 2% solution of basic Fuchsin dye for 24 hours to allow for dye penetration into possible existing gaps. These were then sectioned longitudinally in mesio-distal direction. The sections thus obtained were studied under a stereomicroscope to measure depth of dye penetration as an indication for marginal microleakage at the gingival cavosurface margin and scored as follows : 0 : No dye penetration, 1 : Dye penetration between the restoration and the tooth into enamel only, 2 : Dye penetration between the restoration and the tooth into enamel and dentin but not invovling the axial wall; 3 : Dye penetration between the restoration and the tooth into enamel, dentin and onto the axial wall. The results showed that Group I (tetric flow) had less microleakage scores when compared to Group II (Fuji II LC) and the difference in microleakage scores between the 2 groups was statistically significant (P<.05).

Talon cusp is a developmental anomaly often present on the incisors and premolars. Most talon cusps have been reported in the permanent dentition; however the primary dentition may be affected. In the anterior teeth, it is characterized by a palatal accessory cusplike projection from the cingulum that extends towards the incisal edge. Though rare, cases of labial talon cusps on maxillary central incisors have also been described. Morphologically this anomaly has a well-delineated cusp that extends at least half the distance from the cementoenamel junction or cingulum area to the incisal edge. The alteration can cause clinical problems such as caries or occlusal interference. Management of the talon cusp varies according to the circumstances of the individual case. Presented is a case of talon cusp in left maxillary central incisor with history of trauma. Tooth was discolored and non-vital, managed successfully by endodontic treatment and walking bleach.

A total of 50 HIV seropositive patients with oral lesions/lesions suggestive of oral candidiasis were studied. Their HIV status was determined by 1 ELISA and 2 ELISA/RAPID/SIMPLE Tests in Department of Microbiology, Govt. Medical College, Amritsar. Oral swabs were collected from these patients. Candida species were isolated from 32 patients. The isolates were speciated by standard techniques. Of these, 20 isolates were identified as Candida albicans, 3 as Candida dubliniensis. 3 were Candida krusei and one each was Candida glabrata. Candida tropicalis. Candida kefyr, Candida parapsilosis, Candida albicans var stellatoidea and Candida guilliermondii.

A case of renal rickets associated with hypocalcified dentin with yellowish brown discoloration of the entire dentition, in a fifteen year old female patient is presented. The case was managed by giving esthetic interim restoration with composite laminate veneers extending up to the smile line.
