Efficacy Of Single Visit Root Canal Therapy Using Three Different Canal Preparation Techniques – A Clinical And Radiological Evaluation
July-September 2000, 3(3):127-138
The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of three different canal preparation techniques, when used in single visit root canal therapy. Forty five permanent mandibular molars were selected and divided into three groups. In Group- A, Crown-down pressureless technique of root canal preparation was used. In Group-B, Double-flared and in Group-C conventional techniques were used to prepare root canals. Sealapex was used as a root canal sealer in all three groups. The treated teeth were examined clinically and radiologically after 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. The percentage decrease in radiolucency after 12 months was 84.55 and 89.51 in Group-A, 74.80 and 84.33 in Group-B and 72.46 and 84.61 in Group-C. The findings of this study favours use of Crown-down pressureless technique while undertaking single visit root canal therapy.

Co-Relation Of Bacteria Invading Periapical Lesion And Cementum – An Invivo Study
July-September 2000, 3(3):119-126
An in vivo study was undertaken to determine whether microorganisms invade periapical cementum of human teeth from adjacent periapical lesions. For this purpose, periapical surgery with apicoectomy was done in 20 maxillary anterior teeth with periapical pathology. The pathological periapical tissue and the cementum from deep apical part of the tooth was placed in thioglycollate broth, which were inoculated for isolation of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The study showed the presence of both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in periapical cementum. Prevotella, Fusobacterium, Peptostreptococcus, Eubacterium and Campylobacter were isolated from periapical cementum and accounted for 30% of isolation of bacteria from the total number of cases, whereas 90% of bacteria were isolated from periapical tissues.
