Casting procedure introduced by Taggart in1907 has allowed the dentists the capability to produce a wide variety of metal inlays, onlays, crowns, copings, endodontic posts and bridges for many years. Though the cast gold alloy restorations have demonstrated superior durability and fracture resistance as compared to the other types of restorative materials, they have several drawbacks in relation to the technique and time involved in the whole process. The growing development of dental technology could not ignore the lost wax casting procedure. There have been efforts to use the alternatives both in the form of materials, like Composites, Ceramics, Titanium, Al.Oxide, Zr.Oxide & the techniques such as CAD/CAM, Copy milling and Metal-Foil Swaging technique (Korber 1985), to name of few. This paper aims to highlight one of such efforts, the use of sintered gold technique for producing cast restorations.

Etching the enamel surface with phosphoric acid is an accepted and widely applied technique to improve bonding of composite resin to the enamel. Other technique such as air abrasion, bleaching and micro abrasion also alter the enamel surface, but limited data is available about the repercussion on the shear bond strength, when the final option is direct composite bonding. This study aims in determining the shear bond strength of resin composite to air abraded, phosphoric acid etched, micro abraded and bleached enamel.

In clinical practice we often do come across malaligned teeth. Achieving an esthetic smile, from malalignment is definitely a job of Orthodontist. Though Orthodontics is the right choice, sometimes a conservative management also becomes necessary in cases where Orthodontics could not be carried out. Achieving an esthetic smile by conservative management is discussed here. The clinical case presented here required custom cast and core to provide immediate treatment to the patient. Satisfactory results were obtained in both the cases.

Peg incisor is a developmental disturbance in size of tooth. The micordontia involving only a single tooth is a common condition. It affects most often the maxillary lateral incisor, mandibular second premolar and third molar. However, it may involve other teeth also. This article describes the clinical presentation of a case of peg shaped lower central incisor, with no other systemic manifestations. In this case, shape of peg incisor is recontoured and restored by light cure composite restoration.

Sjogren syndrome is a systemic disorder characterized by decreased salivary and lacrimal function. Patients with Sjogren’s syndrome have many oral health needs. Due to the extensive oral involvement, dentists may be the first to recognize this condition. Characteristics and treatment options for this disorder are discussed and a case report of primary Sjogren’s syndrome is presented.

The aim of this in-vitro study was to determine whether the duration of light activation on light cured Glass lonomer Cement has an effect on it’s bonding to resin composite. 30 acrylic blocks were made having a hole of 6mm diameter and 3mm depth in which a light cure glass ionomer cement was placed. They were divided into 3 groups of 10 each and light cured for 20, 30 and 40 seconds respectively. Bonding agent was then applied and Composite resin cylinders of 4mm diameter and 4mm height were built up with a template in two increments. The specimens were tested for shear bond strength. Statistical analysis was done by One-Way ANOVA and Tukey-HSD (P<0.05). RESULTS: The mean shear bond strength of Group I was 14.08 MPa, Group 2: 16.9 MPa, and group 3:22.8 MPa, Group 3 showed the highest bond strength. There was statistically singnificant bond strength difference between group I and group 3 (P- value 0.004).

The complete or incomplete fusion of teeth though commonly occur in deciduous dentition, yet certain physical forces can lead to development of fusion in complete dentition also. Negotiating root canals in such may pose problems. A case report is presented showing fusion in mandibular canines.
