This Editorial is dedicated to the Editorial team and all the Journal of Conservative Dentistry reviewers. Their hard work and dedication have helped us clear the backlog of pending manuscripts and get the Journal published on time. Our Editorial team consists of two Associate editors and eight Section editors who help process all the uploaded manuscripts.
Once uploaded, the Editor scans each manuscript to ensure that all the Journal guidelines have been appropriately followed. Errors or mistakes picked up at this stage are returned to the author for technical corrections. We prefer that all authors resubmit the updated file highlighting the modifications made.
The corrected manuscripts, once resubmitted, are then forwarded to the reviewers and Section editors topic-wise for their comments and suggestions. All attempts to reduce the risk of bias are made by having more reviewers and concealing the author's identities. The reviewers revert with their comments, either minor corrections, major corrections, or a clear reject. Once rejected, we suggest not to re-upload the same manuscript again.
The reviewed manuscripts are then sent back to the authors for revision with minor or significant corrections or for pertinent clarifications and questions as the case may be. On receiving the revised manuscripts with the explanations, they go through another review by the Associate editors, and if necessary, they may be sent back to the authors for another revision and probably a re-review before a final acceptance goes through. Manuscripts if sent for revisions and a repeat revision do not mean that they cannot be rejected. We recommend the authors use the reply template provided to help us understand the changes incorporated in the paper at every stage. The Editor-in-Chief monitors the progress of the uploaded manuscripts and keeps a careful follow-up.
Again, the Case Reports need to be something different and new regarding the treatments, techniques, and outcomes. Following standard operating protocols strictly without any compromises is a must. Systematic Reviews have been addressed in the previous editorial.
Most importantly, the research or case report should be original, novel, and new. We prefer the plagiarism index to be minimum while using appropriate software might be helpful. Using a well-qualified and experienced statistician for analyzing and processing the data, especially with modern tools, adds more value to improving the overall quality of the research.
Another critical point is the pictures' quality, clarity, and definition. Using a good-quality camera enhances the pictures and, if taken under magnification with a dental operating microscope, the pictures are more precise and detailed. Every Original Research should have pictures of the technique and results. For Case Reports, again, the technique pictures with pre- and post-operative pictures and radiographs showing the short-term and long-term outcomes and follow-up are only but imperative. If the pictures are too many, they can be merged into two plates with appropriate labeling.
The journal references should be presented appropriately in the Vancouver style. Use of incorrect references incorrect referencing can result in the submission getting rejected. We recommend that authors quote newer references and relevant citations from the same Journal.
We endeavor to see that each uploaded manuscript goes through a thorough peer-review process before a final decision. Once again, we appreciate the Editorial Board for working with processing the manuscripts to help publish the Journal of Conservative Dentistry in time.
