The clinical use of indirect restoration other than single tooth crowns is coming down drastically. The undergraduates and postgraduates in Conservative Dentistry must understand the use of Class II/MOD inlays will minimize the loss of tooth structure in comparison to a full coverage crown. The use of cuspal coverage in posterior endodontically treated tooth is almost mandatory. The use of onlays as an alternative to full coverage cast crown in selective cases can conserve tooth structure. Similarly, the use of inlays – metallic/nonmetallic can also save a significant amount of tooth structure with/without cusp capping. The respected faculties and senior members are requested to take an increasing interest in the promotion of single unit cast restorations among the undergraduates and postgraduates. Otherwise, inlay will soon be a subject important in the examinations only.
Pronam and Praying.
