Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is said that “the pen is mightier than the sword.” Yes, my dear readers, penning down your thoughts is one of the best ways to communicate and make your point. Needless to say, we are able to express what is there in our minds clearly through our writings.

Similar is the case when we publish our research wherein we bring out interesting observations and facts from our research or actually give closure to our scientific work by putting an end to what has been our quest and search regarding the specific topic.

So, let us understand what do we achieve by publishing our research and why is it so important to publish?

First and foremost is that when we publish, we are able to share our scientific research findings with our peers, contemporaries, students, and others in and not in our field. I firmly believe that every research has something to teach us and never goes wasted. This knowledge sharing that happens is, in itself, a great accomplishment which comes with its long-term benefits.

Second, a published paper is the crowning glory for all the hard work put in by the researchers. The authors work not only gets recognition but has an impact on fellow researchers who use the outcomes of the publication to design, plan, and work on their own scientific research. Very often, it kindles a spark in the young minds and works as a stepping stone in their own research activities. This happens at various levels starting from the methodology to the review to the discussion and finally, the results as well as the conclusions. I feel every research article is a catalyst for a fellow investigator to ponder and come out with new and innovative ideas.

Third, scientific writing itself is an art which combines the individual's creativity and expression, bringing out the best from the investigator. Their expertise is showcased in depth through such communications leading many curious minds to start thinking and questioning various techniques and steps followed, as well as the outcomes of the research study. This stimulates the mind to what is known as critical thinking and evaluation, which is a very important requisite for each and everyone involved in scientific activities, especially in analyzing, exploring, and probing a specific topic. The publication is referred over and over again by coworkers and others in the field to prove or disprove a point, a hypothesis or a research finding.

Finally, I believe a publication is both inspirational and motivational. Yes, a publication inspires students, colleagues, coworkers as well as the individual in various ways. It motivates young researchers to get to publish their research. This actually drives and prompts the individual and triggers them to pursue their work more and only but perform better. This happens at a personal level or at an institutional level, with both having their advantages. There is always a feel-good factor that one gets through their publication, especially due to the publicity and appreciation one receives from peers and contemporaries. Similarly, many institutes insist that the academicians must publish and have made it a must for career growth and enhancement.

In conclusion, I feel writing and publishing to date is the best way to see that your research reaches out to all and serves as a reference to future generations of researchers.
